Objectives: 합성한 borane을 이용하여 1-hexene에 hydroboration, oxidation반응을 순서대로 일으켜 1-hexanol을 합성할 수 있다.
Principle: 첫째 단계인 hydroboration에서 그림1과 같이 borane이 1-hexene에 반복하여 addition되어 trihexylborane이 합성되는데, 이때 Boron은 electrophilic하며 steric strain이 더 적은 쪽으로 addition되는 것이 더 안정하기에 1번 탄소에 addition되므로 anti-Markovnikov 반응임을 알 수 있다. 또한, Regioselective 하며 stereoselective한 syn addition이다. 실험에서 anhydrous물질을 사용하는 이유는 borane이 물과 반응하면 B(OH)3과 H2 기체를 형성하기에 이를 막기 위함이다. 그럼에도 물과 borane이 반응할 경우를 대비해 과량으로 넣어준다.
