I read the first collection of novels by Choi Eun-young, which was tied up in 2016. In 2014, a young writer who won the award for Best Writer and word of mouth went viral, so I picked up the book with half doubt, ‘How interesting is it?’ As a longtime reader of modern Korean novels, I thought that I had a good sense of perception of works, and I had a preconceived notion about works that were so popular among the public.
When I read the introduction of the first novel in the book, “Shoko’s Smile,” my critical mind remained unchanged. No, I was a little puzzled. I was a little shocked to learn such a plain and boring language to become a novel. However, I was a little shocked after reading the title book.
