Cyanosis is a bluish color of the skin and mucous membranes resulting from an increased amount of reduced hemoglobin (deoxy-hemoglobin)
The detection of cyanosis is subjective and is not a sensitive indicator of the state of arterial
oxygenation
Central cyanosis is cyanosis of the mucous membranes and tongue due to inadequate pulmonary oxygenation or an abnormal hemoglobin.
Peripheral cyanosis is cyanosis of the fingers or extremities from vasoconstriction and diminished peripheral blood flow
