Canada is located in the Northern part of North America and is the second-largest country in the world. The name “Canada” comes from “Kanata,” meaning “settlement, village” of the Iroquois tribe, one of the First Nations(Native Canadian), and the name has been used since Europeans first settled in the region.
Generally speaking, ‘MOSAIC’ and ‘MULTICULTURALISM’ are the terms that best describes Canadian culture. This term, ‘mosaic’ was first used in John Murray Gibbon’s book “Canadian Mosaic: The Making of a North Nation” in 1938.

캐나다는 북미대륙 북쪽에 위치한 국가로 세계에서 2번째로 넓은 국토를 지니고 있다. 캐나다라는 명칭은 유럽인들이 이 지역에 첫 정착했을 무렵부터 사용되었고, 퍼스트 네이션(캐나다원주민) 중 이로쿼이 부족의 정착, 마을, 또는 땅 이라는 의미를 가진 단어 kanata에서 유래했다.
통상적으로 캐나다 문화의 특징을 언급할 때 가장 먼저 등장하는 단어는 모자이크, 다문화주의다. 모자이크는 존 머레이 기본이 1938년에 출판한 캐나다 모자이크 : 북쪽국가의 형성(Canadian Mosaic: The Making of a Northern Nation)에서 처음으로 사용되었다.
