In materials science, hardness is a measure of the resistance to localized plastic deformation induced by either mechanical indentation or abrasion.
Experimental purpose
-Understanding the process of preparing specimens for microscopic observation and hardness measurement.
-Knowing the effect of material type (carbon content) on metal structure or hardness
-Knowing the effect of heat treatment on microstructure and hardness.
-Knowing how to use a metallurgical microscope and hardness tester.
-Improving the adequacy of production processes such as heat treatment and the ability to analyze
defects.
-Increasing understanding of the properties of metal materials required for mechanical design.
It is done for the purpose of knowing the physical properties of materials through hardness measurement. There are two major properties of materials.
