Objective: 2-methycyclohexanol의 Alcohol Dehydration 및 steam distillation을 통해 methylcyclohexane을 얻는다.

Principle: 제거 반응에는 E1과 E2 두 종류가 있다. E1반응은 두 단계로 이루어진다. 첫 번째 step에서는 α-carbon에서 leaving group이 먼저 떨어져 나가면서 carbocation을 형성한다. 이는 흡열반응으로 rate-limiting step이 된다. 이후 weak base에 의해 deprotonation되면서 alkene이 생성된다.
