Surgical airways
– Cricothyrotomy : incision is made in the cricothyroid membrane 
– Tracheostomy : incision is made between two of the tracheal rings
– Needle cricothyrotomy : needle puncture of the cricothyroid membrane

Indication
-Cannot establish an oral/nasal endotracheal airway

-Use tracheostomy tube
Easy insertion, shorter easier to suction, and is easier to secure
Cf) ET tube : inadvertently directed cephalad, advanced too deeply, difficult to secure)
-Diameter : 6-mm tracheostomy or 5- to 6-mm endotracheal tube
