In “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” the ruling Party, led by the enigmatic figure of Big Brother, maintains its iron grip on power through a combination of constant surveillance, thought control, and the ruthless suppression of individual freedom. The Party’s ultimate goal is to achieve total domination over its citizens, not only in terms of their actions but also their thoughts and beliefs.
The Party employs a vast network of telescreens, hidden microphones, and informants to monitor every aspect of people’s lives. This constant surveillance creates an atmosphere of fear and paranoia, as citizens are aware that any sign of unorthodox behavior or thought can lead to severe punishment by the Thought Police.
Moreover, the Party seeks to control its citizens’ minds by manipulating language and information. The introduction of Newspeak, a simplified version of the English language designed to limit the range of ideas that can be expressed, is a prime example of this.
